Happy Birthday Kathryn

My sweet niece turns eleven this week. I recently went back through my photo albums, as I liked to do, and looked at photos of her over the years. It is hard to believe how fast time flies. As I look at her beautiful young face, it is hard to believe she is no longer a tiny little girl but so close to being a teenager. Today we asked her about her favorite things from color to book to movie etc. As I listened to her answers I could not help but wonder what the answers to those questions would be next year or the year after. Kathryn's love for her youngest cousin (Nicholas) is so sweet that I love to watch her interact with him. My boys love Kathryn and their bond with their cousins is amazing. No matter the distance that has been present at times...the cousins have always found a way back at the next gathering. This I will always treasure. I pray that God will continue to guide Kathryn this year and hold her in the palm of His hand....so whatever trials she has to undertake on her journey..I know it will be OK. So Happy Birthday my sweet niece...We love you!

Happy Birthday Sweet Kathryn

Busch Gardens and our dear friends!

This week our family had the pleasure of not only going back and enjoying a fun day at this park but the added bonus of seeing our very dear and fun friends at the same time. In the chaos of life and homeschooling we have not had alot of playdates this semester. Our family has buckled down and worked hard at a few unit studies and of course the expected reading, writing, and arithmetic. It has been a productive semester but Thursday was a welcomed break by all. The park was DEAD so the kids had the luxury of riding whatever they wanted and not waiting for any of it. The weather was beautiful...what more could you ask for. The low note of the day was probably Nicholas being rejected from riding Rhino Rally....just not tall enough yet. We told him to keep eating those "grow foods" and soon it would be his turn!! The park was so decorated and Jill and I commented more than once on how fun it was listening to Christmas music on the speakers all day. All in all it was a wonderful day and we are so blessed to have the friendship of the Jones family. We love spending time with them and always look forward to when the next visit will be.

Catching up

This week has been a good week with lots of fun activities. Preston started out the week by making an edible oasis after studying some of the deserts in his geography lesson. It was made purely of sugar and boy did he enjoy eating his creation at the end. As we moved further along in our week we studied some of the dynasties of China...so we decided to have lunch at a Chinese restaurant. We sampled a variety of things and even tried our hand at chopsticks. In the end it turned out to be more a sport of spear fishing than chopsticks...but it was fun to try!! On Friday, the boys and I went to see the Slim Goodbody show to go along with our anatomy unit. It was very fun and educational. I can see why this show has been around for "years" as many have told me!! We then headed over to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and took in a concert by The Florida Orchestra. The concert was fabulous and so educational!! It focused on the use of humor in music...I never would have known!! We learned so much about a few of the composers and a bit of their personalities as they made fun of others through their music. All in all it was a great week and can't wait to share what we do next week with everyone!! Finally, I spent the morning volunteering at the same distance race that I recently completed. It was an enjoyable event and a good opportunity to give back to the sport that offers so much to me. It gave me great appreciation for all of the volunteers that make a race run so smoothly!! Well, that is about all that has been up at the Radford's this week...so until next time!!

Giving Back at the Clearwater 70.3 Ironman....No competetion today all volunteering!!

Florida Orchestra concert taught us about the use of humor in music

Preston ..A part of history

This year Preston is studying the Middle Ages. This should prove to be another exciting year as there are so many fun projects for him to put together. This week we were studying the time period when Rome split into two parts. We then took a look at different emperors and empresses. Preston's project was to make a crown from that time period. We thought it was funny because he looked more like a chef than an emperor. One thing is for sure, I do not think he will forget about those who ruled over Rome after all of the laughs and giggles we had about the crown of Prestonian!!!
(our made up name for him in Roman times)
