Loving summer

One of the things the kids and I have been exploring this summer is art. We are looking at the artists that everyone recognizes throughout history. I also wanted to look at some contemporary as well as local artists too. So, we have been reading different artist biographies, studying their work, doing a little compare and contrast through time and assessing. Usually I like to study topics in a very orderly and time oriented fashion; however, I will say it is fun looking at a variety of artists from different time periods, of different styles in no particular order. Finally, as we study each artist, the kids then try and paint or create in the style of the artist. This could be using color, contrast, symmetry etc. What a fun study so far.
